3D printing from your file

Get your STL file 3D printed in Switzerland

You have an STL, STEP or 3MF file and need the part? Send me the file. I check every file myself for printability, material, orientation and tolerances, and make the part in my workshop in Root LU, from a single piece to a small series.

How to get your 3D file printed

Four steps, and at each one you know where you stand.

  1. 1

    Send your file

Upload your file in the enquiry form and add a line on what the part is for, how many you need and, if the file does not say, how large it should be. A drawing with tolerances can simply go along as a PDF. No account required.

  2. 2

    Technical check

I open the file myself and look at geometry, wall thickness, orientation and material. If something catches my eye, I ask before I calculate.

  3. 3

    Receive your quote

Usually within 24 hours on working days, listing material, quantity, lead time and price. Printing starts only after your approval.

  4. 4

    Production and delivery

3–5 working days from approval as standard. Then shipping anywhere in Switzerland, or collection in Root by arrangement.

In a hurry? Express production within 48 hours from receipt of payment is available on request.

Which files you can send

The usual print formats as well as design data straight from CAD. Which one suits better depends on whether anything still needs to change on the part.

  • .stl · .3mf

    STL and 3MF

Good for finished print models. Both describe the surface as a mesh of triangles; 3MF also carries units and often colour. If the part is to be printed as it is, these are the right choice.

  • .step · .stp

    STEP and STP

Especially useful when changes are still coming: moving a hole, thickening a wall, adjusting a fit. STEP holds the geometry as surfaces and solids and can be edited cleanly, a mesh only with more effort.

  • .obj · .amf · .ply · .iges · CAD files

    Other formats

OBJ, AMF and PLY from scanners or older toolchains, IGES, and the native files from SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion and FreeCAD. You do not have to export anything before you write to me.

Up to 5 files per enquiry, each up to 25 MB and up to 40 MB in total. Several files can be combined into a ZIP.

I make parts up to 330 × 320 × 325 mm in one piece. Larger parts can usually be printed in sections and joined afterwards.

I check every file myself

A file can look flawless on screen and still produce a part that breaks in the wrong place or does not fit. That is why I look at every file before it goes onto a machine, and tell you what I notice.

If I find a spot that could cause trouble, I discuss with you how to solve it. Your file is only changed where you approve it. And if 3D printing is not the right process for your part, you hear that before the quote.

What I look at, depending on the part

  • Printability of the geometry
  • Wall thickness and fine details
  • Part orientation and load direction
  • Material suited to the application
  • Tolerances and fits
  • Support structures and where they leave marks
  • Strength under the actual load
  • Surface requirements
  • Possible weak points in the design

Materials for your part

Which material fits depends on what the part has to withstand. The range goes from a simple housing to a part that gets warm or stands outdoors.

  • For most parts: PLA, PLA-CF, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU 95A and PC.
  • Engineering and fibre-reinforced plastics: PA6-CF, PA6-GF, PET-CF, PPA-CF, PPS-CF and PC FR.
  • For smooth surfaces and fine detail, resin in SLA printing as well.

You do not have to choose the material yourself. Tell me where the part is used, what it has to carry, whether it gets warm or stands outdoors, and I will suggest the right one.

Questions about printing an STL file

Short answers to what usually comes up before the first order.

Can I get an STL file printed at Printerking?

Yes. Upload your STL file in the enquiry form; STEP or 3MF work just as well. I check every file myself and then send you a quote.

Can I order just a single part?

Yes. There is no minimum quantity; from 1 piece, every order is welcome. I make single parts, prototypes and small series alike.

What does it cost to have an STL file printed?

The price depends on geometry, size, material, print time, quantity and post-processing. So there is no flat rate: after checking your file you receive an individual quote, before anything is printed.

How long does 3D printing take?

You usually receive the quote within 24 hours on working days. Production takes 3–5 working days from your approval as standard. If it is urgent, express production within 48 hours from receipt of payment is available on request.

Where are the parts made?

In my workshop in Root LU, in Central Switzerland near Lucerne. I ship anywhere in Switzerland, and collection is possible by arrangement. Shipping to Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein is available on request.

Which file formats are supported?

STL, 3MF, STEP and STP, plus OBJ, AMF, PLY and IGES, and the native files from SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion and FreeCAD. The form also accepts photos, drawings as PDF or DXF, and ZIP archives.

What happens to my file?

I use your file solely to check and produce your order. It is not passed on and not published, and I am happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement on request. Uploaded files are deleted automatically from upload storage ninety days after they arrive. Records I am legally required to keep for an order are filed separately.

Can I choose the colour?

Yes, within what the material offers: with PLA and PETG the choice is wide, with technical plastics it is narrower. Put your colour wish in the enquiry and I will name the options in the quote. A particular colour can usually be sourced, but it may mean a few days of waiting.

What happens if my file is not ideal for printing?

Then I get in touch before anything is printed. I show you which spot could cause trouble, such as a wall that is too thin or an overhang, and suggest a solution: a different orientation, a different material or a small change to the file. What gets done is what you approve.

Can Printerking modify my file?

Yes. I adapt existing files or design parts from scratch, even from a sketch or a photo. This is easiest with a STEP file or the native CAD file; an STL mesh can be changed too, but with more effort.

Which material is right for my part?

That depends on the application: temperature, mechanical load, weather, UV light, contact with chemicals and whether the part needs to flex. Tell me where the part will be used, and I will suggest the right material and explain the choice in the quote.

Send me your file.

Upload your STL, STEP or 3MF and add a line on what the part is for. You usually receive a quote, or a specific question, within 24 hours on working days.
